Called Secure Access Services from Verizon and powered by Novell technology, the on-demand identity and access management service (IaaS) is designed to enable enterprise clients to outsource the critical infrastructure needed to manage user access to cloud-based resources. This IDC study, which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J10260102, analyzes the Japan IT security market and presents the 2010–2014 forecasts. The impact of the economic recession, sparked off by the subprime crisis, is becoming increasingly evident in IDC's biannual surveys on security software and quarterly surveys on appliance products since our last forecast of the security product market in May 2009. While new implementation of enterprise solutions decreases, the license business for existing security products contributes to the market stability. This is because users need to constantly update virus definitions and attack method signature files, which are necessary for security threat detection, as new methods of system security threats appear almost every day. "Improvement of usage rate of IT security functions in products owned by existing users and the rate of license updates will become the focal issues for vendors in order to increase their profitability," says Hideki Hanaoka, research manager, Security, IDC Japan.
